Google just updated it’s main (and under appreciated) “Google Search” iOS app to include Google Now support, which was Android-only up until now.
I updated the app on my iPhone, but it didn’t work, and asked that I check some settings.
Turns out if you are running Google Apps, you need to enable Google Now under the main google apps dashboard in the Mobile settings for “Android”:
Not super intuitive 🙂
What is Google Now ? Here is an overview video below:
I went through that this morning. I initially looked under the “Your Google apps” section, but there was nothing there. I eventually found this support link – https://support.google.com/nexus/7/answer/2938260?hl=en – which describes how to turn on Google Now for Google Apps customers.
How much more of this nonsense until you just give up, set up some forwarders, and use a regular “works”, “gets the new stuff”, “doesn’t require arcane administration” Gmail account?
This one was fairly painless, but as I published this post, I thought back to our discussion and how you felt that picking google apps was maybe a terrible idea: https://raanan.com/2011/07/08/google-apps-account-transitioned-no-migration-now-what/#comment-7779
